Girls’ education in India is one of the most decisive factors for breaking the cycle of poverty and inequality that affects millions of families. Guaranteeing access to education doesn’t just transform a girl’s life — it transforms her community and future generations too.

The educational situation of girls in India
In India, although there has been progress over recent decades, significant inequalities still exist in girls’ access to education. According to data from UNICEF and UNESCO, millions of school-age girls still don’t attend school or drop out before completing their studies.
Female literacy rates remain lower than male rates, especially in rural areas and vulnerable communities. Factors such as poverty, gender, and geographic location continue to create big gaps in educational opportunities.

Barriers to school access
Girls in India face multiple obstacles that hinder their schooling. Among the main barriers are:
- Family poverty, which forces households to prioritize work or housework.
- Early marriage, which interrupts their education.
- Lack of basic resources, such as uniforms, books, or transportation.
- Social and cultural norms that limit women’s role in education.
According to UNICEF, many families can’t take on the costs associated with education, which means girls are the first to leave school when resources are scarce.
What changes when a girl goes to school
When a girl gains access to education, her life — and that of those around her — changes forever.
Studying expands her job opportunities and allows her to aspire to higher income and an independent life. It also reduces the risk of child marriage, giving her more freedom to decide her own future.
Education improves her health and that of her future family, by giving her key knowledge for care and prevention. It also breaks the intergenerational cycle of poverty, creating new possibilities where there were none before.
And the impact goes even further: an educated girl is far more likely to send her own children to school, creating a ripple effect that transforms entire communities.
Educating a girl is investing in a future with more opportunities for everyone.

Our education model
At the CiENViDAS Foundation, we work to guarantee girls’ education in India through a formal schooling model with comprehensive support. Our goal isn’t just for them to be able to go to school, but to make sure they can actually stay in it.
This is possible thanks to sponsorship, which lets us remove the financial barriers many families simply can’t take on.
For many girls, expenses like a uniform, books, or transportation are the main obstacle to studying. That’s why our program covers:
- School supplies
- Books
- Uniform
- Transportation
This way, we ensure they can attend on equal footing, without their families’ financial situation determining their future.
This approach doesn’t just make access easier — it also improves educational continuity. When a girl has the resources she needs, she’s far more likely to stay in school and build a future full of opportunity.
Sponsorship doesn’t just cover expenses: it opens doors. It allows a girl to study, grow, and change her own story.

Success stories
In our sponsorship program, more than 100 girls are already writing a new story. Thanks to access to education, today they have the chance to improve their quality of life and build a future with more options, more independence, and more hope.
Nutan, Pintu, Lakshmi, Jharna, Nisha… these are just a few names, but behind each one is a real story of transformation.

Lakshmi: from being unable to go to school to dreaming of the future
Before joining the program, she had never had the chance to go to school. In a large family with limited resources, studying wasn’t an option for everyone. Like many girls in her situation, her days were spent at home, helping her mother with the housework.
Today, her reality is different.
Thanks to her full sponsorship, Lakshmi can not only attend school, but also has comprehensive support: food, clothing, and healthcare. This lets her focus on what matters most: learning, growing, and dreaming of a different future.
Now, Lakshmi goes to class with excitement. She’s happy to learn, to discover the world through books, and to build a path that didn’t exist for her before.

And like Lakshmi, there are many more girls who are beginning to believe their future really can be different. Because when you sponsor a girl, you don’t just support her education. You drive a story of real change.
How you can help
You can be part of this change too. If you want to get involved directly on the ground, discover all of our volunteer programs in India.
Sponsorship is a direct and powerful way to transform a girl’s life. You don’t just give her access to education — you also contribute to her daily well-being, creating the conditions she needs to grow, learn, and build her future.
With a small monthly contribution, the impact is enormous:
- €21 a month covers her schooling
- €18 a month guarantees her basic support (food, clothing, and health)
- €39 a month makes full support possible
Behind every figure is a real opportunity. An opportunity for a girl to go to school, feel protected, and discover everything she’s capable of achieving.
Change starts with an opportunity. And that opportunity can start with you.
