India: the country that embraces you, challenges you and wakes you up
India is like nothing you’ve experienced before; it’s a wonderfully chaotic place.
The first day everything is intense: the colors, the temples, the traffic that seems to dance more than flow, the curious looks, the hands that wave at you without knowing you.
But there’s something even stronger: the feeling that here your presence really matters; our girls welcome volunteers warmly and love having them.
At the care home, the girls greet you with a mix of shyness and a smile.
Some look at you without speaking, others come straight over to hold your hand.
And even if they don’t speak your language, you feel there’s nothing to translate — you’re home, and you’re already part of the family.
What does it take to be a volunteer in India?
Far less than you’d imagine… what matters most is your attitude and your willingness!
Speaking English is a great help, but the language of love is universal and the most spoken one there.
You don’t need professional experience.
The girls don’t ask for degrees; they ask for company, affection, attention; they ask for someone to listen to them, play with them, explain an exercise, teach them a song. Our girls love to dance!
You don’t need perfect English.
A smile, a gesture, a “good morning!” said with warmth…
carries more power than any grammar.
What you do need is heart.
And if you’re here, you already have it.
Safety: cared for from the very first minute
India may surprise you, but you’re not alone.
Our local CiENViDAS coordinators are with you from the airport to your last day. The areas where you’ll live and work are carefully chosen.
Activities take place in safe environments, with local staff who guide, support and protect you.
You’re not coming to face the world alone:
you’re coming to be part of a family that’s already ready to welcome you.

The first day
You feel out of place.
Of course: you’ve never lived anything like this.
The third day
A girl sits beside you in silence and hands you a drawing.
Your name is inside a heart. That’s the moment you understand you’re no longer a visitor — you’re part of her world.
The second week
You laugh in a language you still don’t speak. You get emotional without meaning to. You discover that teaching adds something, but learning adds even more; your return is getting closer, and you feel bittersweet, torn between wanting to go home and wanting to stay a little longer…
The last day
It’s the long hug, the “don’t forget me,” the promise to come back and a tear you let slip without realizing… a piece of you stays with them, and they capture your heart forever!
And you come back different — no one returns unchanged, of that there’s no doubt.
Real impact: when your time becomes an opportunity for them
Sometimes we think that changing the world requires grand gestures.
But here, every small act makes a huge difference:
- helping with homework, listening to stories, playing, dancing, singing, building confidence, encouraging them to dream and empowering them to reach anything they set their minds to!
For you it’s a day; for them it’s a memory that will light up entire years.
