CiENViDAS AASHRAY Orphanage – Jaipur, India
VOLUNTEER WITH US AND MEET OUR GIRLS
The project takes place at the Aashray orphanage for girls and boys, our partner NGO in the CiENViDAS Jaipur project. At our orphanage, 80% of the children are HIV-positive, but their treatment reduces the virus to such a level that they can lead a normal life and pose no risk of infection to anyone (source: WHO).
Even so, orphaned and made ill by their weak immune systems, they suffer stigma and prejudice to the point of being abandoned on the side of some road.
But not all of them meet that fate… For 100 of those girls, we don’t want to build a shelter… or a building where they can sleep, eat, laugh, go to school, and receive medical treatment. For those 100 girls, we want to build… a Home.
- Accompany the girls with their tasks, their playtime, during their lunch… Being with them is the best gift you can give them.
- Help with the orphanage’s maintenance tasks. Two hands can do a lot.
- Support the girls with their homework and learning.
The volunteers you’ll live with come from all over the world and are very different people. But sharing such a profound experience gives the volunteer house a warm atmosphere of companionship and friendship that you feel the moment you land. It’s something close, something special.
Your day starts with breakfast at the volunteer house before you head to the project, where you will receive a warm welcome. International volunteers are highly valued and respected in India. You will usually work from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 or 1:00 p.m. After lunch and some free time, you may return to the project. It is deeply rewarding work, and many volunteers feel they receive as much from the experience as they give.
In the afternoons, back at the volunteer house, you’ll have free time to explore the city or take part in the program’s cultural immersion activities. And weekends… free to rest, or to travel to Agra (a visit to the incredible Taj Mahal) and to Pushkar, a Hindu sanctuary city with its impressive market and sacred lake, where Gandhi’s ashes were scattered. And not forgetting the camel safari.
This is the trip we offer you…
Are you really going to put it off?
The Volunteer House in Jaipur is ideally located for project participants: a residential area near the center, with shops, restaurants, a hospital, transportation, etc. It has rooms for 1 to 4 people with a cooler and bathroom, shared lounges and dining room, satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, a washing machine with drying rack, fridges, a bookcase, lockers, and more.
And always under the supervision and care of the coordinator. Everything so you feel at home.
As for the food, Indian dishes are prepared that are, yes, a little spicy, but you’re sure to love them. Rice, legumes, wheat chapati, vegetables… 3 meals a day are included.
And if you want a more intense cultural immersion experience, you can also stay with a host family. Very hospitable, they’re a safe, comfortable, and culturally enriching option for a volunteer in India.
AGRA
If there is a monument to love, it is undoubtedly the magnificent Taj Mahal, an exquisite white-marble mausoleum built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife. One of the Seven Wonders of the World.
Includes transfers, monument entry tickets, hotel, and breakfasts.
PUSHKAR
One of the holiest pilgrimages for Hindus and the only place in India with a temple to the “Creator” God, Brahma. Colorful markets and 500 temples around the sacred lake, where Gandhi’s ashes were scattered.
And in the afternoon, off to the desert on camels! Sandy dunes and villages where we can soak up the unique landscape of the Thar Desert. Our safari ends at the camp, where we’ll have dinner and spend the night in a tent… under the stars.
Includes transfers, safari, monument entry tickets, a night in the desert, breakfasts, and 1 dinner.
