Teaching in Cochabamba, Bolivia

Bolivia Education Viaje Organizado

SHARE AND RECEIVE LOVE FROM CHILDREN AGED 2 TO 6
BY HELPING AND TEACHING THEM

Volunteering at the TACKOLOMA DAY CENTER/COMPREHENSIVE CARE and the AROCAGUA FARMERS’ MARKET is a rewarding experience that offers opportunities to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the less fortunate. Volunteers can take part in a variety of tasks, tailored to their skills, interests, and the residents’ needs.

Activities

  • Preschool activities: we care for children aged 2 to 6 and organize recreational and educational activities for them (for example, teaching numbers, reading stories, playing in the park, etc.).
  • English school: we run English lessons twice a week with games to improve the children’s education, encourage them to try hard, and build their confidence in themselves and in speaking another language.
  • Homework help: every day the children come to the centers with their homework. We support and motivate them to complete their schoolwork.
  • Sports: many children and teens are interested in sports. Our goal is to help and boost young people’s self-esteem, using sport as a tool to teach values.
  • Creative projects: through these activities, we let children develop skills and show talents that go beyond standard training or aren’t part of the formal curriculum. We fill these gaps by running projects (music, theater, dance, painting, puppets, circus arts, etc.) that captivate, entertain, and inspire the children.
  • Health and nutrition: many children live in communities without drinking water. Their diet is often very poor and hygiene standards are generally not good. We try to improve the children’s current situation and educate them about it.
  • Community projects: in general, anything that benefits the community benefits the children. So we undertake, facilitate, or help with projects that improve living conditions or the state of the communities, for example, a community garden, reforestation, cleanup, construction, and infrastructure improvements, etc.
  • Solidarity Dining Hall: with the goal of improving nutrition and ensuring healthy food for children and the elderly, we hand out free lunches Monday to Friday.

A volunteer’s day to day

The volunteers sharing the experience with you come from all over the world and are very different people. But sharing such a profound experience gives the volunteer hostel a warm atmosphere of companionship and friendship that you feel the moment you land. It’s something close, something special. So, among friends, your day starts with breakfast before heading to your project, where you’ll be welcomed with open arms, since volunteers are highly valued and loved in Bolivia.
When you finish, you’ll return to the volunteer house, where you’ll have lunch, and in the afternoons you’ll have free time to explore the city or do cultural immersion activities.
And on weekends… free to rest, or to travel!

This is the trip we offer you… are you really going to put it off?

Accommodation and meals

The accommodation option in Cochabamba is a Volunteer House, sharing a room between two people, or — for an additional cost — choosing a single room, with basic amenities.
Meals include breakfast and lunch; dinner is arranged by each volunteer, but don’t worry, because food is inexpensive and you can cook your own dinner each night with other volunteers.
That way you can organize different dinners together, where everyone brings their own food culture and you’ll discover new flavors and local cuisine.
Each volunteer will be in direct contact with the project coordinator to ensure you have the information you need, so your stay is as pleasant as possible and you experience a cultural exchange with the other volunteers (local and international).

The facilities include:

  •  Shared room (maximum 4 people; single room available at an additional cost).
  •  Communal kitchen.
  •  Pantry to store your food.
  •  Shared Western-style bathroom with toilet and shower.
  • Hot and cold water.
  • Filtered water.
  • Wi-Fi.
