Children with Disabilities – Kathmandu, Nepal

Nepal Childcare Viaje Organizado

COME TO NEPAL TO TEACH AND
CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR DEVELOPMENT. EDUCATION IS THE FUTURE.

The program takes place at an NGO in Kathmandu that supports, cares for, and educates 55 children, many with physical disabilities or from extremely poor families. This mix of children with and without disabilities is very beneficial for their development and integration.

Volunteers with experience in childcare, Psychology, Therapy, or Physiotherapy are highly valued. This project is a unique opportunity for volunteers to experience Nepali family life and culture and to contribute to these children’s English and life skills.

The friendships and memories from your volunteer work will last a lifetime, because although living conditions aren’t easy, the love and enthusiasm, as well as the family atmosphere, are based on respect, cooperation, and mutual support. And they focus on ability, not disability.

Activities

  • You’ll help with the daycare activities as part of the family
  • You’ll talk in English with the children and help them prepare for school and with their homework
  • You’ll organize activities for the children on Saturdays and holidays
  • You’ll assist the office staff and share general household chores

A volunteer’s day to day

The volunteers sharing the experience with you come from all over the world and from many different backgrounds. Sharing such a meaningful experience creates a warm atmosphere of companionship and friendship that you feel the moment you land. It’s something close, something special.

So, among friends, your day starts with breakfast in the dining room before heading to your project, where you’ll be welcomed with open arms, since volunteers are highly valued and respected in Nepal. You’ll work roughly from 9:00 to 12:30 or 1:00. Lunch, some free time, and back to work — which is nothing but enormously rewarding time, where your help will give you more than it gives them.

In the afternoons, back at the volunteer house, you’ll have free time to explore the city or take part in the program’s cultural immersion activities. And on weekends… free to rest, or to travel!

Accommodation and meals

The new Kathmandu Volunteer House is ideally located in Thamel, in the city center, for project participants, with shops, restaurants, a hospital, transportation, etc.

It has rooms for 1 to 4 people with a cooler, private bathrooms, a terrace, shared lounges and dining room, satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, a washing machine with drying rack, fridges, a bookcase, lockers, etc. And always under the supervision and care of the coordinator. Everything so you feel at home.

As for the food, typical Nepali buffet dishes are prepared that are, yes, a little spicy, but you’re sure to love them. Rice, legumes, omelets, vegetables, chicken… 3 meals a day are included.
