Volunteering in Nepal is a transformative experience that combines social impact, personal growth, and the chance to discover one of the most fascinating countries in the world. In this complete guide from the CiENViDAS Foundation, we’ll tell you everything you need to know before taking the leap.

Why volunteer in Nepal?
Volunteering in Nepal is a unique opportunity to give back to communities that truly need it, while immersing yourself in an ancient culture. Our programs are designed to create a real impact, especially in education and social development.
We work mainly in Kathmandu, a safe and welcoming city for volunteers, surrounded by spectacular landscapes: temples, mountains, and an unmatched cultural energy. You’ll also have local support every step of the way.
Volunteer programs available in Kathmandu
In Kathmandu we offer three main types of programs, focused on education and child development:
1. Teaching in public schools
This is the program our volunteers value most. Public schools in Kathmandu face major challenges: overcrowded classrooms, scarce resources, and a shortage of teachers. As a volunteer, you’ll work as a teacher or assistant, providing support in English, math, science, or creative subjects. No prior teaching experience is required.
- Teaching English, math, science, or creative subjects
- Taking part in sports and recreational activities
- Helping children with schoolwork and tutoring
- Supporting local teachers with lesson planning and materials
2. Teaching Buddhist monks
This program takes place in a Buddhist monastery in central Kathmandu. The children come from remote mountain villages, and the monastery itself covers their expenses. As a volunteer, you’ll take part by teaching English and other basic subjects, contributing directly to their educational and personal development.
3. Supporting children with disabilities
This program runs at a local NGO that cares for 55 children, many of them with physical disabilities or from extremely poor families. Profiles with experience in childcare, psychology, therapy, or physiotherapy are especially valued. The integration of children with and without disabilities is one of its most rewarding aspects.
