Teaching Buddhist Monks – Kathmandu, Nepal
COME TO NEPAL TO TEACH BUDDHIST MONKS.
EDUCATION IS THE FUTURE.
The school is located inside a Buddhist monastery in central Kathmandu, which covers their expenses. The children come from mountain villages. They are disadvantaged children
who have no access to education (perhaps that’s why they’re so hardworking and studious!). The monastery offers them accommodation, food, and schooling. And when they finish their studies, they can choose the life of a monk or integration into society like any other child.
We mainly need volunteers who can teach Math, Computer skills, Science, Creativity (crafts, music), or Physical Education and Sports. You’ll work in the monastery as a teacher or teaching assistant.
The volunteer project activities are designed so that no prior teaching experience is needed, though professional teachers are appreciated. Teaching materials, daily activity/lesson planning, and daily support are provided to volunteers to achieve the greatest impact during their time on the project.
Activities
You’ll teach math, science, creative subjects (music, crafts, …), or Physical Education and Sports.
You’ll help the little monks with their homework. Extra classes.
You’ll support teachers with lesson planning and preparing teaching materials
A volunteer’s day to day
The volunteers sharing the experience with you come from all over the world and from many different backgrounds. Sharing such a meaningful experience creates a warm atmosphere of companionship and friendship that you feel the moment you land. It’s something close, something special.
So, among friends, your day starts with breakfast in the dining room before heading to your project, where you’ll be welcomed with open arms, since volunteers are highly valued and respected in Nepal. You’ll work roughly from 9:00 to 12:30 or 1:00. Lunch, some free time, and back to work — which is nothing but enormously rewarding time, where your help will give you more than it gives them.
In the afternoons, back at the volunteer house, you’ll have free time to explore the city or take part in the program’s cultural immersion activities. And on weekends… free to rest, or to travel!
Accommodation and meals
The new Kathmandu Volunteer House is ideally located in Thamel, in the city center, for project participants, with shops, restaurants, a hospital, transportation, etc.
It has rooms for 1 to 4 people with a cooler, private bathrooms, a terrace, shared lounges and dining room, satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, a washing machine with drying rack, fridges, a bookcase, lockers, etc. And always under the supervision and care of the coordinator. Everything so you feel at home.
As for the food, typical Nepali buffet dishes are prepared that are, yes, a little spicy, but you’re sure to love them. Rice, legumes, omelets, vegetables, chicken… 3 meals a day are included.
