Why do family volunteering?
- It strengthens family bonds while sharing valuable experiences with your children and partner.
- You live an experience to remember in the future.
- You teach by example: what better way to teach your children than by setting an example with your own volunteer work?
- It’s a chance to share real quality time.
- It’s a lesson in tolerance: being away from the comforts of home or a luxury hotel can help your children appreciate a good life over materialism.
- It’s a great cultural experience and travel experience.
- It teaches the joy of giving to the community or the environment.
- Gratitude for what they have; they’ll be surprised when they see the less fortunate and realize they can be just as happy, or happier.
- Humildad implícita en cada actividad de voluntariado, Tolerancia hacia formas de pensar y de vivir diferentes.
- Respect for others, especially the disadvantaged and those with disabilities,
- Generosity of spirit, by acquiring “the habit of giving” during their volunteer work.
- Kindness toward people, children, and animals.
- Respect for the environment.
- It boosts your children’s self-esteem and confidence as they carry out their daily volunteer activities alongside their parents. Volunteering helps children see that they have the power to change others’ lives.
- It’s a great opportunity to pass on VALUES to your children:
- It helps your children learn skills for their future:
- Problem-solving.
- Patience and perseverance, as they encounter situations they may not be prepared for.
- Teamwork on the volunteer project
A volunteer’s day to day
The volunteers you’ll live with come from all over the world and are very different people. But sharing such a profound experience gives the volunteer house a warm atmosphere of companionship and friendship that you feel the moment you land. It’s something close, something special.
So, among friends, your day starts with breakfast in the dining room before heading to your project, where you’ll be welcomed with open arms, since volunteers are highly valued and respected in India. You’ll work roughly from 9:00 to 12:30 or 1:00. Lunch, some free time, and back to work — which is nothing but enormously rewarding time, where your help will give you more than it gives them.
In the afternoons, back at the volunteer house, you’ll have free time to explore the city or take part in the program’s cultural immersion activities. And on weekends… free to rest, or to travel!
Accommodation and meals
The Kathmandu accommodation is ideally located in Thamel, in the city center, for project participants, with shops, restaurants, a hospital, transportation, etc. It has rooms for 1 to 4 people with a cooler, private bathrooms, a terrace, shared lounges and dining room, satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, a washing machine with drying rack, fridges, a bookcase, lockers, etc. And always under the supervision and care of the coordinator. Everything so you feel at home.
As for the food, typical Nepali buffet dishes are prepared that are, yes, a little spicy, but you’re sure to love them. Rice, legumes, omelets, vegetables, chicken…
