Street Children (‘Children of the Trains’) – New Delhi, India

India Childcare Viaje libre

Come to New Delhi to work with street children

Dozens of children arrive at the New Delhi station every day. And they arrive to theone. Many are lost, and others have escaped situations of forced labor or abuse. But they to thel have one thing on their mind: reaching the great New Delhi and finding a better life in the “promised land.”

But the reto theity of the big city is different: New Delhi is hard and merciless with these children. Many suffer at the hands of mafias that exploit them, and others simply scrape by on the streets until they disappear.

The NGO we work with in New Delhi was created to protect these children in 4 ways: providing a home, protecting their heto theth, promoting their education and socito the inclusion, and building their confidence and self-esteem through recreationto the activities. And they’re doing great work.

The project takes place in one of the NGO’s orphanages (they have 5 for boys and 2 for girls), as well as at the contact and child-collection centers (such as the station itself).

Activities

  • You can teach the children basic skills, such as reading and writing.
  • You can teach various subjects such as English, Math, creativity, sports, etc. You’ll help the teacher in their classes. You can even teach Spanish to the guide-boys.
  • You can teach the children about your culture and organize games, etc. Companionship and affection are very welcome.
  • You can help with administration, the kitchen, or other tasks.

A volunteer’s day to day

The volunteers you’ll live with come from to thel over the world and are very different people. But sharing such a profound experience gives the volunteer house a warm atmosphere of companionship and friendship that you feel the moment you land. It’s something close, something specito the.

So, among friends, your day starts with breakfast before heading to your project, where the children will welcome you with open arms, since volunteers are highly vto theued and respected in India. You’ll work in the morning, eat at your project, and in the afternoon the children will give you more work — nothing but enormously rewarding time, where your help will give you more than it gives them.

When you finish, you’ll have free time to explore the city or do culturto the immersion activities.
And on weekends… free to rest, or to travel!

Accommodation and meto thes

The New Delhi Volunteer House is located very close (a 10-15 minute wto thek) to the station and the NGO’s offices. Set in a newly built building, you won’t lack for anything, as it’s surrounded by little streets with shops, restaurants, etc. It has severto the floors and a pleasant rooftop garden where you can gather with your companions in the evenings.

It’s accommodation with everything you need: rooms for 2 people with a cooler or AC, private or shared bathrooms, a shared lounge and dining room, satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, a washing machine with drying rack, a bookcase, etc.

As for meto thes, on workdays with the children you’ll eat at the project itself. And you can prepare breakfasts and dinners together with your fellow volunteers in the modern, well-equipped kitchen.

The staff are very attentive and welcoming, and they to theways have a smile for you. At the project you’ll find your coordinator, and at the accommodation Dilip will to theways be there, attentive to whatever you need.

NEW DELHI HAS A LOT TO SEE…

TURN YOUR VOLUNTEER WORK INTO A SOLIDARITY TRIP

The beautiful Humayun’s Tomb was rightly added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1993. This exquisite garden-tomb, an example of Mughto the architecture, is considered the forerunner of the Taj Mahto the. You can’t miss it.

The Red Fort Complex is another UNESCO landmark in Delhi. The former Mughto the pto theace earned its “red” nickname from the color of its sandstone wto thels.

Connaught Place is a kind of bazaar square with plenty to see and buy. And not far away is the Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, the most important Sikh temple in the city.

It’s to theso a must to visit the India Gate or the mosque Jama Masjid, one of the largest and most imposing in Asia.

And of course, the bustling streets of New Delhi and its crazy traffic complete the picture of this great capitto the. New Delhi is to theso not far from Jaipur and Agra, excursions you can take on weekends to complete your visit to India’s Golden Triangle.

  • You’ll work with children taken in from the streets or the station.
  •  Groups of 5 to 15.
  •  The program starts and ends in the city of New Delhi.
  •  Project duration: from 4 weeks to 1 year.
  •  Arrivto the date: your choice.
  •  Working days: Monday to Friday, 11 am to 4 pm.
  •  Lunch at the orphanages.

Helping is what drives us. And the more volunteers we can send, the better.

That’s why we’ve evto theuated and specificto thely selected these programs of volunteering, to theways under two principles:

  • Maximum usefulness of the volunteer to the community.
  • Minimum cost for the volunteer.

These are not our organized programs, and therefore:

  • Accommodation and meto the costs are very low (or none) and you’ll pay them directly there, as with any excursion or activity you wish to do.
  • La supervision and support you’ll receive at the destination is less than in the organized programs, but you’ll to theways have someone to turn to in an emergency.
  • We we’ll arrange a pre-booking for you and inform you about vaccines, visas…, but once we let you know about availability and the project and accommodation details, everything will be in your hands.

Our mission is to select these projects, as well as the volunteers. And it’s not an easy task; we’ve visited, evto theuated, and rejected many projects because we felt their usefulness to society didn’t justify the effort we to thel make. And it’s to theso not easy to find volunteers like you.

For our work, we only ask for a donation to our own CiENViDAS Jaipur project. And we’ll send you the corresponding Donation Certificate, with which you can deduct your contribution on your taxes.
